GREAT BEGINNINGS MONTESSORI SCHOOL, INC. was formed by a group of parents in 1986 to provide an educational environment based on the philosophy and methods of Dr. Maria Montessori.  Dr. Maria Montessori's method of teaching centers on the needs of the whole child using hands-on materials and cultural activities. She believed that young children are constantly learning through the absorbent mind and adults can help nurture the child's natural interests and perceptions through the prepared environment.  The teachers at Great Beginnings guide and encourage each child through one on one lesson presentations, rather than only through regimenting and directing the group as a unit.  The Montessori materials challenge the child to do his/her best and to be successful in completing a task. Joy of accomplishment and self-esteem are some of the rewards.

The unique cycle of learning provided at Great Beginnings is designed to take advantage of the child's sensitive periods that occur between the ages of three and six, when s/he can absorb information and profound life understandings from a specifically ordered and enriched environment.  Great Beginnings creates a warm, nurturing atmosphere where each child is treated with sensitivity, honesty and respect.

GBMS is a Full School Member of the American Montessori Society, which provides standards for school operation and regular consultation for professional development.

Our school encourages respect for cultural, racial, religious, and economic diversity.  In hiring staff or enrolling children, Great Beginnings does not discriminate with regard to racial or ethnic background, religion, sex, marital status, or physical disability.
